Irwin Industries, Inc. is committed to the health and safety of its employees, both on and off the job. Safety is THE primary concern, and takes precedence over all other job factors. Irwin's goal is to minimize, if not totally eliminate, injuries, illnesses, and property damage resulting from unsafe conditions or acts. We believe that all work place injuries and illnesses can be prevented.

The guiding principles of Irwin's safety policy are outlined below:

Irwin's goal is to provide a safe and healthful place to work for its employees. Irwin will provide the safe working conditions, training, equipment, tools, facilities, and management necessary to achieve this goal.

The company's commitment to safety applies equally to all employees, at all levels, at every job site, office and shop.

No employee will be required to work in unsafe conditions or to perform unsafe acts. No employee will be discriminated against for reporting unsafe acts or conditions, or for refusing to participate in work that is unsafe.

The company will be proactive in safety, with the goal of identifying and correcting work place hazards before injuries and illnesses occur. The company will stay abreast of legislative and regulatory requirements as well as leading edge developments in safety programs such as worker-to-worker concern, behavior-based or employee-based safety programs. Irwin’s impressive safety record is a result of the JSA Doctrine, which was created from these programs. Irwin will seek to develop and maintain cooperative and teamwork oriented relations in safety with all our customers.

The company implements, administers, and monitors appropriate safety and health programs for its employees. This will include industrial hygiene and medical monitoring programs, as necessary. The company will develop appropriate safety rules, regulations, and safe practices, and communicate these to all employees.

Employees will be trained in the skills and safe practices necessary to work in a safe and responsible manner, and in the hazards, precautions, and consequences associated with their work.

The company will promote and enable employee participation in safety programs. Irwin recognizes that employee involvement is key to the success of our safety program. Appropriate recognition will be provided for superior safe work performance.

Safety policies and regulations will be strictly and uniformly enforced. Appropriate disciplinary policies will be maintained and communicated.

The Job Safety Assessment (JSA) Program is the company doctrine for safe work practice. It is based on the principle that all accidents are preventable and the universal goal of zero accidents is emphasized. The program flourishes at the worker level and everyone is encouraged to conduct self-assessment and co-worker concern oversight.
