Irwin Industries was founded in Long Beach, California in 1922 during the Signal Hill oil boom. From its beginning in the production fields, Irwin has grown in size and stature in the petrochemical industry serving both refineries and productions fields. In 1981, Westinghouse Electric Company purchased IRWIN, enabling the company to become a significant participant in power plant retrofit and maintenance services.
In 1987, IRWIN was acquired by Park Corporation – a privately held corporation whose portfolio includes a diverse range of manufacturing and service companies. Backed by Park Corporation's vast resources, IRWIN has evolved into one of the nation's leading construction and contract maintenance companies.
IRWIN established its Ventura fabrication group in 1996. Today, IRWIN's Ventura group provides fabrication, construction and maintenance services to petrochemical, manufacturing and other heavy industries throughout the Western region.
In January 2001, to accommodate IRWIN's continued expansion, the company relocated its headquarters to a 52,000-square-foot facility at 1580 W. Carson Street in Long Beach, California. The new facility houses the company's administrative, warehouse and craft & safety training center.
In April 2001, IRWIN purchased UNIT Construction and Hobbs-Bannerman Engineering to form an organization dedicated to and capable of turnkey construction projects for the industrial community. With the addition of UNIT's civil construction capabilities and the engineering support of Hobbs-Bannerman, IRWIN services all of the operating functions of a major construction project.
IRWIN’s strength since its inception has been its well-trained and dedicated work force. IRWIN's 1,000-plus employee workforce is committed to delivering the highest quality customer service possible. We invite you to experience the IRWIN difference.
